Did you know that Brazilian 70's sound is very popular in France (among funky people of course)? This is largely due to a bar in Paris, the "Favela Chic", that started to play funky 70's brazilian sound in the mid90's.
They started in a small bar and then moved to a bigger place where they mixed a good selection of music, mostly brazilian but not only. Their merit : to introduce these sounds in a large scale to the public ears, not only in Paris but worlwide when they lauched their "Favela Chic postnove" compilations. All volumes are good (4 in total). The team is also involved in (good?) production, notably with Seu Jorge.
Since it has become successfull, the bar has completely lost the initial feeling and concept, is overpriced (not really favela prices..)... and very badly run! Success spoils it all...

It's great to have generous friends. This post is a gift from the funky parrot Zeca, father of Loronix, the greatest ever community of brazilian music in history. Yep, brazilian music is good, I should say magic, for the spirituality that transpires from its rythm and deep happiness. This LP - from this rather unknown band - is another stunning example of how brazilian music can naturally make you liberate big amounts of dopamine in your brain, and make you feel good and loving. Life should be a party to share with friends, no?..

Hi folks. Brazil 70's sound is good, sure. But the 70's created DISCO too. I'm not talking about mainstream saturday night feverish disco, but rather about UNDERGROUND DISCO, mostly from NY or Chicago.
These sounds could have disappeared without the hard-core community of Disco lovers who endlessly track and revive rare and rarest tracks. Most worldwidely famous is Dimitri from Paris (I use to buy my vinyls at the same shop he usually drops a few notes, at Youri, in Paris), but there are many others : Joey Negro, Sean P, Al Kent, Dj Muro, Danny Krivit to name a few big names. The quest of these Djs/Historians : to track the rarest and funkiest disco 7" or 12", the ones you'd never hear in your life considering the few copies in the world. Most of these tracks never met success for being released by tiny local labels, despite their amazing grooves and Dance spirit.

This compilation by the mighty Al Kent is the only out-of-print volume of the amazing serie called "Disco Demands", and this is why I post it. Full of gemms, many wisely re-edited by super-talended Disco doctor Al Kent himself.
The 2 other volumes are the bomb too, you can get them on cd at www.milliondollardisco.com or www.dustygroove.com

All my friends mad about 70's sounds can rejoice : here is one of the best French OST from the 70's.
L'aventure c'est l'aventure (1972), music by Francis Lai (the one who did the theme of "Un homme une femme", among hundred others). Movie direction by Claude Lelouch (no presentation needed..).

The movie too is excellent, the unlikely history of an aging band of gangsters who decide to reconvert into modern gangstering. Their periple leads them to hijack the pope, rock stars (Johnny Halliday) and cuban leaders (!!); behind this crazy script, a very funny painting of the 70's world politics and society. Highly recommended and widely available on dvd!

The lp is pretty rare, I got this copy for a reasonable price in the flea market of Saint Ouen (Paris) in the mid 90's. Amazing sound, deep atmosphere, a real gemm !

Sambalanço : a key word for peace of mind and happiness. What is it? a magic and unique brazilian blend of samba, jazz, and soul vocals, that later became Samba-rock. The godfather : Jorge Ben, willing to break free from Bossa domination on brazilian music, and at the same time influenced by 60's american music, understood there was a fusion to be made of all this : mix the key arrangments of the successfull Jazz conjuntos of the late 60's, the guitars inherited of bossa masters (more energized), and vocals with a soul approach.
Need an introduction to the style : check this good compilation, Som Valente - Raridades !
