The more I know about 70s music, the more I love complex symphonic strings orchestrations... Mozart, Beethoven would have arranged soul or disco if they were alive in the 70s..

Check this gemm: McKinsey Jackson and Paul Riser, possibly 2 of the most prolific composers of the 70s, arranged this monster track by soul artist Angelo Bond, who only did one LP, good from A to Z (so why only one LP?? good must be always rare?)

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy it too!

cheers

I love to undig forgotten and overlooked gems as you noticed. But what I love more is when someone gives these tracks a second life. I posted a few edits but good ones, like the Tod Terje takes on Crusaders, Chaka Khan but nothing is better when they are edits of track I pesonnally undigged on my blog..

So guess my joy when http://soundcloud.com/libra-music came up to me last week with a splendid edit of a super rare and obscure track I discovered many years ago from Brazilian artist Claudia. The original track is one of my all time favorite from the 70s, great dynamic, orchestration and deep brazilian voice, the perfect funky mix to me. The edit is superbe, putting the right emphasize where it is needed but not too much, keeping the original track feel untouched but also adding some more beat and energy for today's needs.

You can still find the original there: http://soundcloud.com/soundsofthe70sblogspot/claudia-ana-cor-de-cana-sounds-of-the-70s-blogspot, and the short note I then wrote: "My definition of funky brazil : Extract from this great 1976 RCA album by one of the greatest brazilian diva, Claudia, better known for here 1971 lp "Jesus Christo", a track that shows the very funky touch of this fabulous artist who always managed to get surrounded by edgy musicians."

Thanks Libra for your great great job, please keep on tapping into the tracks I posted for more edits !

I discovered this track in the early 90s in London, a golden era in its own when the best DJs were starting to dig hard into the 70s music and revive it

This is a 70s soul jazz / free soul anthem that needs little comment, dated 1969

Initially released by the Yarbirds in 1965, this song was covered in 1978 by Chilly, a German Euro-Disco band.

Among the 00's edits made out of it, I find this one pretty good

Originally formed in 1969 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Joneses were a five-piece vocal group whose members also played instruments. The group first achieved success in 1974 with the club hits Sugar Pie Guy and Hey Babe (Is The Get t in' Still Good?). Their debut album, Keepin up with the Joneses was released by Mercury in the same year. After the release of their debut, The Joneses briefly disbanded before regrouping in 1977, this time recording a self-titled album for the Epic label, with production and arrangements by Philadelphia International Records guitarist Bobby Eli.Recorded in Philadelphia s Sigma Sound Studios at the height of the Philly Soul era, this rare gem went on to become a staple of the Modern Soul movement and features the underground classics Who Loves You and Rat Race, among others.

this anthem was valid in the 70s, isnt it still now?

I love to think that the 70s history is made of families who produced musical geniuses, the first of all being the Jackson family.

I discovered Edmund Sylvers recently in this nice LP. The Sylvers was a great 70s band but none of the brothers knew the success of the peer Jackson brothers... fate !

Here a super groovy track who could have been sung by Michal Jackson, don't you think?

Wikepdia says:

"Davis Eli "David" Ruffin was an American soul singer and musician most famous for his work as one of the lead singers of the Temptations from 1964 to 1968 (or the group's "Classic Five" period as it was later known). He was the lead voice on such famous songs as "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg. Known for his unique raspy and anguished tenor vocals, Ruffin was ranked as one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine in 2008"

judge by yourself.. not to mention the splendid orchestra arranging in the background !
